One month ago, I celebrated what would be the last Valentine’s Day with my husband. I can look back at the cards we exchanged, knowing that I told him again that he was important to me and that he communicated the same to me. That afternoon, he was devastated as he drove home from a quick trip to the doctor in Vegas. He listened to the news reports related to the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, and he asked the Lord what he should share with his family to give them comfort. God gave him Psalm 91, which has carried me through the following weeks. Three days later, I was calling the local paramedics to help as my husband deteriorated after what I thought was a stomach bug. It turned out that he was battling pneumonia in both lungs along with sepsis. Septic shock had caused him to spiral into the state of multiple organs failing, and he never regained consciousness.
The month has been a challenge, and the coming months will be a time of processing and healing. However, we were given a blessing and a gift in that Psalm as Scott left us with a message of confidence, knowing that God is our protector in a world that is full of troubles.
